Writing out loud. I often shape my own thoughts in conversation with other people. (Apologies, other people, for having to listen to half-thought out stuff, and thanks for indulging me. You know who you are. Now with the lockdown I find myself meeting and chatting with others much, much less — virtual isn’t the same for this purpose because of the way we’re used to set up conversations rather than just having them. Maybe a Discord (like Tom is proposing) or something might solve this, but for now I find that writing is filling that gap for me. It’s slower, but maybe it leads to more polished outcomes? We’ll see. Tell me about it once we can all meet in meatspace again.

Loving Alex’s Sunday Scraps blog posts. Short and dense and full of interesting, eclectic stuff.

Wondering how much of the (perceived; certainly super niche, but real) recent resurgence of honest-to-god, personal website blogging (!) on top of newsletters has to do with the fact that Medium kinda-sorta just imploded in on itself. Early on, a traffic machine; later a monetization attempt. It always, always looked gorgeous (still does!) but it’s become the thing it tried to replace: Lots of attention and solid monetization to a tiny big head and obscurity for the long tail. So anyway, all the independents (which I love reading, that’s really my tribe) are now both on newsletters and personal blogs again. It’s weird and lovely.

(Note to self: Everything in today’s post seems to be straight from the early 2000s, what’s going on?)
